และแล้วเราก็กลับมาเจอกันอีกแล้วนะคะ วันนี้ Now I Love English ของเราจะพามาทำความรู้จักกับ 10 คำศัพท์ยอดฮิตที่มีความหมายเหมือนกันจากฝั่ง British English และ American English พร้อมตัวอย่างประโยคให้นำไปใช้กันแบบเท่ ๆ และก็เพื่อน ๆ จะได้ไม่งงกับคำศัพท์ที่อาจจะเจอเคยเจอมา ถ้าพร้อมแล้วเรามาเริ่มกันเลยดีกว่าค่ะ
1. รถยนต์รับจ้าง/รถแท็กซี่
American: cab
British: taxi
ตัวอย่าง:
Can you help me call the cab/taxi, please?
= คุณช่วยฉันเรียกรถแท็กซี่หน่อยได้มั้ยคะ?
My cab/taxi is coming soon.
= รถแท็กซี่ของฉันกำลังจะมาถึงเร็ว ๆ นี้
2. ป่วย
American: sick
British: ill
ตัวอย่าง:
I was sick/ill last week, so I didn’t come to work.
= อาทิตย์ที่แล้วผมป่วยเลยไม่ได้มาทำงาน
She has been sick/ill for a week.
= เธอป่วยมาเป็นอาทิตย์แล้ว
3. ลิฟต์
American: elevator
British: lift
ตัวอย่าง:
I prefer to walk on the stairs rather than taking the elevator/lift.
= ผมชอบที่จะเดินขึ้นบันไดมากกว่าขึ้นลิฟต์
This elevator/lift is so slow.
= ลิฟต์ตัวนี้ช้ามากเลย
4. กระเป๋าเดินทาง
American: baggage
British: luggage
ตัวอย่าง:
His baggage/luggage hasn’t arrived yet.
= กระเป๋าเดินทางของเขายังมาไม่ถึงเลย
How much did you buy this baggage/luggage?
= คุณซื้อกระเป๋าเดินทางใบนี้มาเท่าไหร่
5. รถจักรยานยนต์, รถมอเตอร์ไซค์
American: motorcycle
British: motorbike
ตัวอย่าง:
He’s just bought a new motorcycle/motorbike for his son.
= เขาเพิ่งซื้อรถมอเตอร์ไซค์คันใหม่ให้ลูกชายของเขา
Did you like that motorcycle/motorbike?
= เธอชอบรถมอเตอร์ไซค์คันนั้นหรือเปล่า?
6. คิว, แถว
American: line
British: queue
ตัวอย่าง:
She waited in the line/queue for 3 hours to get tickets.
= หล่อนเข้าแถวรอ 3 ชั่วโมงถึงได้ตั๋ว
No one should jump the line/queue.
= ไม่มีใครควรลัดคิวทั้งนั้น
7. เทอม, ภาคเรียน
American: semester
British: term
ตัวอย่าง:
My university has 4 semesters/terms.
= มหาวิทยาลัยของฉันมี 4 ภาคเรียน
We will do great this semester/term.
= เทอมนี้เราจะทำมันได้ดี (แน่นอน)
8. รองเท้ากีฬา, รองเท้าผ้าใบ
American: sneakers
British: trainers
ตัวอย่าง:
My brother has about 20 pairs of sneakers/trainers.
= พี่ชายของฉันมีรองเท้าผ้าใบประมาณ 20 คู่
He always buys new sneakers/trainers every year.
= เขามักจะซื้อรองเท้ากีฬาใหม่ ๆ เป็นประจำทุกปี
9. กุ้ง
American: shrimp
British: prawn
ตัวอย่าง:
Grilled shrimp/prawn is my most favourite food.
= กุ้งเผาคืออาหารโปรดของฉัน
My father always peels the shrimps/prawns for me.
= พ่อของฉันมักจะปลอกเปลือกกุ้งให้ฉันเป็นประจำ
10. ขยะ
American: trash
British: rubbish
ตัวอย่าง:
My sister didn’t throw the trash/rubbish this morning.
= น้องสาวของฉันไม่ได้ทิ้งขยะเมื่อเช้านี้
Please put the empty bottles in the trash/rubbish bin.
= กรุณาทิ้งขวดเปล่าลงในถังขยะ
